Broken Road, New Beginning: God's Truth Set Me Free

I grew up with a child’s faith, the simple kind that quietly fades as you get older. By my twenties it was gone, and I went looking for God on my own terms: yoga, meditation, retreats, new age teachings, travels through Asia. I was searching for something real, but always just missing it.
Then, while I was studying abroad, someone close to me met people speaking openly about Jesus on the street. He came back convinced and told me, “Jesus is the truth.” Something in me felt relief. Part of me had hoped it all along, and part of me already knew. Suddenly my whole picture of the world fell into place, everything I had experienced, learned, and reached for finally fit together.
When I came home I was introduced to that same faith. Someone prayed over me, and for the first time I felt the Holy Spirit, so deeply it moved me to tears. I opened the Bible and could not put it down. I wanted to understand everything. Not long after, I was baptised, and something settled in me. From that day I carried a quiet awareness within, an inner leading of the Holy Spirit that I slowly learned to trust and follow.
But the road after that was not the straight line I expected. The relationship that had pointed me toward Jesus became the hardest and most painful season of my life. For a long time I was confused, and I believed I had no right to leave. Yet the same quiet leading never went silent. Little by little it showed me that the truth really does set us free, and that God’s heart is for safety, peace, and life. When I finally walked out, with my young son, I was following that inner voice. It was not away from God. It was toward the life He had for us.
Today our life is steady, safe, and good. We are surrounded by kind people, and I find blessings in the ordinary of every day. After the gift of salvation itself, being a mother is the greatest joy I have been given.

I don’t believe God wanted my pain, but I do believe He used it. What had been meant for harm, He worked together for good, and He led me into a truth I could never have reached any other way. He has given my son and me a new beginning, a future and a hope. If you are in something that feels hopeless and confusing right now, this is what my story would say to you: the path is rarely what we think, and God is able to take even that and turn it into a way home.
